New Delhi, 10 May 2025: Adani Enterprises has deployed India’s first hydrogen-powered truck for mining logistics in Chhattisgarh. The truck, equipped with smart technology and three hydrogen tanks, can carry up to 40 tonnes of cargo over a 200-kilometre range.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off the first truck in Raipur, marking a crucial step in India’s transition to clean transportation. The vehicle will be used to transport coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to the state’s power plant. The initiative aligns with Adani Group’s commitment to reduce carbon emission and responsible mining, aiming to gradually replace diesel-powered trucks in its logistics operations.

The hydrogen-powered truck is a result of Adani’s collaboration with an Indian and international energy technology firm, along with a major auto manufacturer. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles offer a sustainable alternative to diesel trucks, producing only water vapour and warm air as emissions while maintaining comparable range and load capacity.
Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), both subsidiaries of Adani Enterprises, are spearheading the project. ANR will source hydrogen cells from ANIL, which is also involved in green hydrogen, wind turbines, solar modules, and battery manufacturing.
The deployment of hydrogen-powered trucks is expected to significantly reduce emissions and noise pollution in mining operations while also lowering India’s crude oil imports. Adani Natural Resources has already set industry benchmarks by being the first in Asia to deploy Dozer Push Semi-Autonomous Technology, further enhancing safety and sustainability.
