Indigo appoints ex-IAS officer Vikram Singh Mehta as new chairman of IndiGo

New Delhi, 28 May 2025: Indigo announced Vikram Singh Mehta as the new Chairman of its board. This announcement comes as Venkataramani Sumantran steps down following the completion of his five-year term.

Vikram Singh Mehta formerly served as Chairman of the Shell Group of Companies in India and as CEO of Shell Markets and Shell Chemicals, Egypt. Over the years, he has also shown his expertise to the boards of reputed companies, including Colgate Palmolive (India) Limited, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, and Larsen & Toubro.

Since May 2022, Mehta has been a part of InterGlobe Aviation, IndiGo’s parent company.

Before his corporate journey, Mehta served two years in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). In 2010, Asia House awarded him the ‘Businessman of the Year’ and, in 2016, the Asia Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability awarded him the ‘Best Independent Director’ in India. He has done a master’s degree in politics and economics from Oxford University and in Energy Economics from Tufts University.

With the chairmanship of Mehta, IndiGo is expected to meet the growth of the Indian aviation market.
